The research field related to Ambient Intelligence is constituted both from national and international (e.g. EMERGE, Amigo, MonAmi, WASP, Continua, TeleCARE, COM2REACT, COOPERS, WHERE, WILLWARN) research efforts. In a few of these research projects (e.g. EMERGE, EFIPSANS, Silvergate112) one or more of our consortium partners are present as project members.
In the mean time, well known international researchers claim that, besides the research and development, nowadays major efforts must be focused to the integration and innovation of these systems. Therefore, besides the research and development of the missing technical parts, this project focuses on the integration and market introduction of the respective systems.
More precisely:
- The current research efforts are often too general and futuristic; thus, it is hard to apply their results for specific applications. At the same time, the concrete systems are built to serve specific types of demands and services; therefore, it is hard to define and introduce new services into such systems. The architectural frameworks considered in the BelAmI_H 2nd Phase project will allow the adaptability and dynamic expansion of the system and services, facilitating the easy introduction of new and intelligent localization services.
- The current radiofrequency-based localization services are usually based on one technology (e.g. WLAN). The system to be developed will let the introduction of current localization techniques into one heterogeneous system by using the ad hoc and sensor networking paradigms. Thus, the localization services will be more dynamic and adaptable, allowing the definition of a larger set of localization applications.
- The methodological tasks (3, 4, 5) will further investigate the current solutions and will optimize and develop proper solutions for the new demands.
The novelty of each work package will be more deeply investigated at the task description sections.
